Garrick Andrew Lackey

July 30, 1992- November 23, 2013

Garrick Lackey was an all-around amazing person, and just his smile could brighten up your day. Garrick grew up in Littlestown, PA with his parents, his older sister, his older brother, and his younger sister. He loved playing soccer, ultimate Frisbee, and a friendly debate in politics.

Garrick was a senior at California University of PA, where he had already earned degrees in Philosophy and Political Science, and was finishing his third degree in Creative Writing. Garrick LOVED to learn. We were all in awe of him because Garrick was always challenging himself with a demanding course load. He was planning to continue on in graduate school in Europe or Washington DC after his graduation in May of 2014. Garrick had ambition and dedication, and he had such passion. He brought passion to everything he did, whether that was soccer, Frisbee, student government, or college classes. He always gave 110%. Garrick wanted to go into politics, and we all expected to see his name on the ballot for Senator someday. He wanted to make a name for himself, so that he could help change people’s lives. He wanted to change the world, to make it a better place.

Garrick's passion, heart-warming smile, and encouraging words will be missed every day. However, he will continue to live on through all of the people that knew and loved him. More importantly, he will be able to continue to touch other people’s lives through the inspiration he gave to those of us that had the pleasure of knowing him.

So when you find yourself in a difficult spot, ask yourself "What would Garrick do?" Do something that can make a difference, big or small. If you can't find the motivation to keep pursuing your dreams, let Garrick’s spirit encourage you, and give you that dose of motivation that you desperately need. Do it for Garrick, if you can't find it in you to do it for yourself.

Inspiration from Garrick's Journal

"I am waiting for that creative spark

I am waiting for that story of all stories to emerge

I am waiting for that chance to prove myself

I am waiting, in short, for a dream"

-Garrick Andrew Lackey

"Why limit yourself to one thing? I have always known that I could do both: even when I was told I couldn't. This is the same... Philosophy, Writing, and Politics each have their place."

-Garrick Andrew Lackey
